Nurse Quality

Grade: B

While we were not complementary of this nursing home's overall score, it earned an impressive nursing rating this year. We gave it a B in this category. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses are seeing patients and the levels of training of those nurses. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

We actually gave this nursing home a very solid grade in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we gave it a B- in this category. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's third highest area turned out to be long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. Long-term care grades focus on a nursing home's personal care instead of the highly skilled nursing or medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. After we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinated 98.054474 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our fourth category, this facility did not perform well in this category either. With an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. Short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. With a score of this caliber for this category, we were not stunned to learn that this facility was below average in the two key staffing figures we looked at. The facility provided substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The last measure we assessed in this category is the number of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.8 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
