Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also was awarded an A+ long-term care grade, rendering it one of the few facilities to receive several A+ category scores. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. There are several criteria within this category. Many of these criteria are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Switching gears to the last category, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care category. We awarded it a B+ for that area. This rounded out a very strong report card. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to score a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. It doesn't appear that this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Finally, we considered the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.
