Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

While we weren't high on this facility overall, we gave it a B- for our short-term care rating. This score is more respectable than the place's overall score. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next most favorable area was long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a C. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is better than the average nursing home. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is well below average. Lastly, while this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this statistic.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

The final category we looked at is inspections. Inspection grades are based on a facility's recent government inspections. This nursing home received a C in this category. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were category G through L deficiencies. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
