Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we gave it a B for our inspections category. This was the result of the nursing home receiving a decent government inspection report this year. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with too many deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Among this facility's litany of terrible grades was its F in the area of short-term care. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Given its score in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the figures we looked at. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. We weighed the licensure of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in calculating our score in this area. This nursing home offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This place fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we looked at was long-term care. This facility received a poor grade of F in this area. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 76.47059 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
