Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home received an inspection grade which is better than its overall grade. Inspection ratings are associated with a facility's recent inspections. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B+ in this category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had a generally positive view of this facility's inspections.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was given positive long-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our more impressive scores in this area, with a B. This proved to be the nursing home's second best grade. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.5 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home only earned a D for its short-term care rating, which is well below average in this category. With our short-term care score, we attempt to create a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess the facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Considering its poor grade in this category, we weren't stunned to find this facility offers substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the last area, we awarded this nursing home a D for nursing. This is the facility's least impressive category rating. Our nursing grade is largely associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This number is significantly below the national average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility had really bad marks in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. For starters, we looked at the percentage of patients sustaining falls which led to major injury. This nursing home was at more than 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
