Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We also would like to point out the fact that this nursing home has earned nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this area. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is what you like to see in this important metric.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its top-shelf resume, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care area. In fact, we gave it a score of A for that category. Short-term care grades are generally employed to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home North Dakota in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning patients more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category we scored, this nursing home was given a very strong grade of B+ in our long-term care category. With this grade, the facility wrapped up a very strong profile. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 97.70408 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
