Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the place's overall score. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also awarded this facility a respectable score in the category of long-term care, where it received a grade of C. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated 88.56305 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is quite a bit less than what we expected. Nevertheless, this place excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home only received a grade of D for its short-term care grade, which is not a score to write home about. Short-term care grades are typically used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Based on its score in this category, we weren't surprised to find that this facility is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. The last metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The final area we graded was nursing, which was this facility's worst category. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this category. Our nursing score is primarily tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These statistics hurt this facility's nursing rating significantly.
