Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this facility received a decent overall score is its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category, with an A+. This is a notably better score than the place's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information about this nursing home's deficiencies. We would like to have more data for this nursing home. Without the deficiency data, it was challenging to fully assess this nursing home in terms of this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

One of this nursing home's better category scores came in the area of short-term care. This turned out to be its second best category. In that area, we gave this nursing home a C. Our short-term care ratings are presumably most important for folks requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. We found that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in this area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated only 79.91071 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next category we rated is nursing. We gave it an F for this area, which is a rock bottom score. This is certainly a major concern. When determining a nursing home's nursing score, we look at the number of hours nurses are with residents as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This particular facility provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is well below average. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores could be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this facility's nursing score quite a bit.
