Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were fairly low on this facility overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Inspection scores are tied to many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's short-term care rating ended up being one of its more favorable features. The nursing home was given a grade of C in this category. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its level of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded just a D in this area. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 98.31933 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final area we looked at was nursing, where this facility received a bottom of the barrel grade in this category also. It received an F in this category, which is obviously somewhat alarming. There are a variety of subcategories included in this grade. Most of these data points are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found this place was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
