Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this proved to be a quality nursing home is it received a very impressive short-term care grade. In fact, short-term care turned out to be its best category. In that area, we gave this facility an A+. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility also performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with a score of A. Few nursing homes with an overall score in this range performed this well in multiple categories. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a somewhat concerning figure as it is well below the national average. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's worst area is long-term care, which is the final area we assessed. For this area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. Facilities that don't fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 90.90909 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is a few points below what we anticipated but still a decent figure. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
