Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with a strong overall score, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our inspection category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This top notch nursing home also performed well in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A+. Very few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our short-term care ratings are presumably most important for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. We looked at the licensure of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses were with residents, in computing our grade in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning residents at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final category we analyzed is long-term care. We awarded this facility one of our higher grades in that area, with a grade of B. While this was not as high as several of this facility's other grades, it is still a fine score. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 91.666664 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is a bit less than we expected but still a respectable percentage. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
