Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its favorable overall grade, we gave this place an A+ for our inspection category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also was awarded an A+ long-term care grade, making it one of the few facilities to be given several A+ category grades. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.166664 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Nursing scores are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility was given an extremely favorable short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in that area, rounding out a straight A profile. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to measure a facility's rehabilitation services. To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
