Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also received A+ inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Our inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also was given a impressive short-term care grade. This actually ended up being its second strongest category score. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of A. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is considered to be a useful measure of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this nursing home was awarded a first-rate score of A- in our long-term care area. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 96.739136 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final area, we gave this facility a A+ for our nursing score. This wrapped up a first-rate report card. Nursing scores are largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
