Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Although this facility's overall grade was terrible, it actually didn't perform as poorly in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it a C for that category. There are many subcategories included in this area. Most of these datapoints are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility also didn't grade out poorly in the category of long-term care. In fact, we gave it a C for that area, which happens to be another one of its more respectable grades. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home gave the vaccine to 96.1039 percent of its residents, which is a very solid datapoint. This facility keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

Interestingly, this facility's awful overall grade probably can't be attributed to its inspection reports. We gave it a C for this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. This place was assessed 6 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were in categories G through L. This tells you that this facility dodged the more significant classes of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we looked at is short-term care, is this facility's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a D in that area. Short-term care grades are generally used to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. With its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the data we looked at. The last item we assessed in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.8 percent of its patients returning home.
