Facility Inspections

Grade: A

The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our higher scores in that category, with an A. This is a much better grade than the place's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more impressive category scores came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B. It actually outpaced most nursing homes in this category. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

In our next category, we gave this nursing home a rock-bottom F in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. With its poor score in this category, we weren't surprised to find this facility offers substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.4 percent of its patients returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility's least impressive category is nursing, which is the final area we assessed. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area. Despite multiple acceptable scores in other categories, this score is still disappointing so we felt obligated to point it out. The nursing grade analyzes several components, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is well below average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this place had bad scores in many of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients having falls which led to serious injury. This nursing home was at more than 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.
