Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in this category with an A+. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's long-term care score appears to be one of its more favorable grades. The nursing home was awarded a grade of B- in this category. Our long-term care grade is typically used to judge a facility's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to only 89.090904 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home wound up receiving a bottom of the barrel grade in our short-term care category. It received a lowly F in this category. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing. This includes a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. With a grade of this caliber in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's least impressive category was nursing, which is the last area we analyzed. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area. Even with multiple acceptable scores in other areas, this grade is still disappointing so we wanted to point it out. The nursing score weighs many subcategories, many of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. This nursing home also had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This facility was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this measure.
