Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this ended up being a quality facility is that it earned an impressive inspection score. Inspections turned out to be its best category grade. In this area, we gave this facility an A. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among this nursing home's other strengths is its top-shelf short-term care score. We awarded them one of our strongest grades in that category, with a score of A-. Our short-term care grades are vital for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. The nursing score includes quite a few subcategories, but the paramount one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we scored was long-term care. We gave this facility an acceptable grade in this category, with a grade of C. While this wasn't on par with some of this nursing home's other scores, it is still a middle of the pack score. In computing these long-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's personal care services. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. This place keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
