Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home excelled in our shot-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is considered to be a reliable assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Our inspection ratings are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Our nursing rating focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a patient more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we graded was long-term care. We awarded this nursing home an acceptable grade in that category, with a grade of C. Even though this is not as strong as several of this facility's other grades, it is still a middle of the pack score. In computing our long-term care scores, we assess the personal care offered to a facility's residents. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We found that this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 86.85715 percent of its residents, which is a bit of a concern. Nevertheless, this facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
