Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While this facility's overall grade is not a highlight, it actually received a somewhat respectable score in the area of inspections. We awarded it a B- for this category, which is not bad. Inspection scores are based on many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this facility a grade of B- for our nursing rating. Our nursing score is largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a somewhat discouraging figure as it is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third area we assessed was short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a solid grade of B-. In forming these short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The real question is whether this also impacted quality of care. The last metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last area we rated was long-term care. This nursing home was given a B- for the area. Long-term care grades are generally used to score a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services offered by a skilled nursing facility. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.75622 percent of its patients, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
