Facility Inspections

Grade: C

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of C. We believe that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. This facility had 9 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were category G through L deficiencies. This tells you inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent danger to resident safety or health. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also pleasantly surprised to find that this facility received a somewhat respectable long-term care rating this year. We awarded it a C in this area. Our long-term care ratings are critical for patients looking for non-healthcare services such as personal care. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 98.207886 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. There are several criteria included in this grade. Most of the criteria are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to our fourth category, we gave this facility a grade of D in the area of short-term care. This was the facility's weakest category rating. In computing these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Based on its grade in this area, we were not stunned to find that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we looked at. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.
