Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among the reasons we graded this facility so well is that it was awarded a very impressive long-term care grade. In fact, long-term care is its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home a score of A-. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 96.979866 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we assessed is short-term care, where this facility was given a C in this category. Short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The final area we scored was nursing. We gave this facility a D for the area of nursing, making this the facility's weakest category grade. The nursing rating includes a number of data points. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This facility provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. While this nursing home's nursing hours were below average, it actually surprised us in a few of the qualitative metrics in this category. In particular, we were pleased to find that its patients appear to be sustaining fewer pressure ulcers than most nursing homes.
