Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Few facilities performed better in this area. Inspection grades are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B in our long-term care category. This is one of our better scores. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 76.203964 percent of its residents. This is a bit lower than we expected but still a respectable figure. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the category of short-term care, this facility was given a grade of just D in that category. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. With its weak score in this area, we weren't surprised to discover this facility offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 4.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to our last area, we awarded this facility a grade of D in nursing. This is the facility's worst category rating. Nursing scores are largely associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This nursing home was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this measure. This is likely a bad sign in light of the fact that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this nursing home's nursing score quite a bit.
