Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection grade. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A-. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more favorable category scores came in the category of short-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we looked at is long-term care, where this facility was awarded a grade of C in this category. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 82.24852 percent of its residents. This is significantly below average. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Moving on to the final category, this nursing home was given an acceptable nursing score of C. The nursing grade considers a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is far below average. Lastly, we also factored in some quality-based statistics in this category. Although this nursing home didn't rank highly in terms of its nursing hours per resident, it fared much better in some of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average. This is usually a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented with better nursing care.
