Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

On top of being a first rate facility overall, this facility excelled in our inspections category, where it earned an A+. Few nursing homes performed this well in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also was awarded an A+ long-term care grade, making it one of the few facilities to receive several A+ category grades. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a proven method to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. In computing our nursing ratings, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the final category, this facility also was given an impressive short-term care score, with an A-. This finished off a straight A profile. Our short-term care grades are thought to be most meaningful for those needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 4.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
