Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Even though this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it actually didn't perform quite as poorly in long-term care. We gave it a B- for that category, which isn't bad. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to spare its otherwise weak profile. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated just 83.333336 percent of its patients against pneumonia. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility also didn't perform poorly in the area of short-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a grade of C in that area, which wound up being another one of its better grades. Short-term care ratings are vital for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in the category of nursing. In fact, we awarded it a grade of D for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with nurse staffing levels. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility did not receive a favorable inspection grade. We gave it a just D in this category. Inspection ratings relate to a facility's inspections. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they caused a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, we need to point out that this place received significant government fines of over $100,000. This usually means that a nursing home's poor track record spanned more than one year.
