Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We gave this nursing home an impressive grade of A- for our long-term care rating. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After we finished assessing the amount of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a life or death health condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Our inspection grades are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's inspections. Facilities that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next highest area ended up being its short-term care grade, where it was given a C. With our short-term care rating, we endeavor to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 4.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Switching gears to our last area, this facility was given a decent nursing grade of C. When calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the number of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. In addition to ranking poorly in terms of nursing hours offered, this place also lagged behind in certain statistics that focus on quality of care. This place's nursing score was pulled down by poor performance in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 22.784811 percent of this place's residents sustained pressure ulcers. This is at least double the national average.
