Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our short-term care category. Our short-term care scores are crucial for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. It doesn't appear that this nursing home submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our inspection scores weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also would like to point out the fact that this facility received a dominant score of A- in our long-term care category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.651566 percent of its patients. This is a great way to avoid negative health outcomes for the nursing home population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to our next area, this facility received an excellent nursing rating. We gave it a grade of B+ in that area, topping off one of our finer report cards. We looked at the licensure of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses worked with patients, in determining our score in this category. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as predictive measures of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
