Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received an impressive long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B in that area, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. After we finished assessing the volume of nursing care, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 97.98657 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's third best category turned out to be its short-term care grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our short-term care ratings are arguably most important for residents needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our next category, this facility didn't fare very well. With a poor grade of F in nursing, this is its worst category grade. There are numerous data points within this category. Many of these data points reflect staffing levels. This nursing home offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
