Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this facility a middle of the pack grade in the category of long-term care, with a grade of B-. With our long-term care category, we weigh the quantity of services offered by a nursing home, along with some qualitative datapoints. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 74.92537 percent of its patients. This is significantly below the national average. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next highest area ended up being its short-term care score, where it received a grade of B-. In crafting our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. It doesn't appear that this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final category we analyzed is nursing. In this category, we awarded this facility a grade of C. Our nursing rating is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is far below average. Lastly, nursing scores also consider quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a reliable indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
