Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall performance, we awarded this facility an A+ for the area of inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's third most favorable category turned out to be long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B-. In forming our long-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's personal care services. One of the factors we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we analyzed is short-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this category. Short-term care grades are typically used to grade a facility's rehabilitation services. To provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
