Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility really excelled in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we also wanted to point out that this facility received positive short-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our higher grades in this area, with a grade of B. This proved to be the nursing home's second best score. Our short-term care grades are probably most critical for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third area we assessed is long-term care, where this facility was given a grade of B- in this category. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 99.15254 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final category we looked at is nursing, which is this facility's weakest category. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area, which is certainly a major concern. In calculating our nursing grades, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily, this facility's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility.

Minimizes Serious Falls

Grade: C

Grade: F

In Princeton Place, 10.55% of Patients had UTIs

This is the percentage of patients that sustained a urinary tract infection. UTI's are considered to be an indicator of the quality of nursing care at a nursing home. UTI's are routinely caused by lower quality nursing care. However, this metric may be skewed for certain facilities due to inconsistent reporting standards for these infections.

Grade: C

In Princeton Place, 19.2% of Patients use Anti-Psychotic Medication

This tells you the percentage of residents who were prescribed antipsychotic medications. While antipsychotic drugs may be vital to many patients, it is important to make sure these drugs are being used only where medically required.
