Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

To pair with its favorable overall score, we gave this nursing home an A- for the area of inspections. Our inspection grades are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility received high grades in the area of nursing as well. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. Our nursing score is largely based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Nebraska in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of B+. It performed better than most nursing homes in this area. Short-term care scores are based on the facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next category we graded is long-term care. We gave this facility a grade of D in the area of long-term care, rendering this its worst category. For residents seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 97.52066 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
