Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is it received a very impressive short-term care score. In fact, short-term care turned out to be its best category. In that area, we gave this facility an A. Our short-term care scores are probably most meaningful for individuals in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home also received top notch inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that category, with an B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we were able to find deficiency data for this nursing home. Without information regarding deficiencies for this facility, it ended up being challenging to really assess the place in the area of inspections.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our stronger grades in our long-term care category as well, with a grade of B. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 78.08219 percent of its residents, which is a few points below what we were hoping for. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we rated was this facility's weakest category. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still awarded it an acceptable grade of B- for our nursing category. There are a variety of criteria included in this area. Many of the criteria are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, we also baked some quality measures into our nursing grades. This place was subpar in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are often reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care available.
