Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home's best grade came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B. It actually outperformed most facilities in this area. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are kept in good health. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility's inspection score exceeded its overall score as well. We awarded them one of our better grades in that category, with a grade of B. This is a better grade than the facility's overall grade. Inspection scores are based on several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing score. We gave this facility an D. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This facility offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we scored was short-term care, which is a low point for this facility. We awarded this nursing home a D for the area of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for patients requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
