Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its strong profile, this facility also was given a superb long-term care score, with a grade of A. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 98.5 percent of its patients. This is a proven method to avoid negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given a dominant score of A in our short-term care area. Short-term care grades are often used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 6.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning to the last category, this nursing home also excelled in the nursing category. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that area. This completed truly elite profile. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
