Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area tend to have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we gave this nursing home an A+. There are several datapoints within this category. Most of these criteria reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also was given an A+ for its long-term care grade. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In the last area we rated, this facility received first-rate scores in the area of short-term care also. Consequently, we gave it an A+. This left it as one of an elite handful of facilities who received A+'s in all of our categories. In our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
