Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to performing well overall, this nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection report. Therefore, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. When calculating a facility's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for residents as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

An additional strength for this facility is long-term care, where it was awarded an A+ rating. This is just about as dominant as it gets in this area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on to the final category, this facility also performed admirably in the short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in this area. This rounded out truly elite profile. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
