Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility really excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more impressive category scores was in the area of long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a B. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. After we finished assessing the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing rating. In fact, we gave this facility a grade of D. There are a variety of datapoints included in this grade. Most of these datapoints are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to the fourth area, this facility didn't perform well. Due to an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is its worst category grade. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. With a grade of this caliber for this category, we were not shocked to find this facility was below average in two of the key staffing areas we assess. In fact, it offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. Finally, we considered the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 2.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
