Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this nursing home's above average category grades came in the area of long-term care. We awarded them one of our more favorable grades in that area, with a grade of B. Facilities that do well in this category typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 98.56115 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also above average in the area of short-term care, where it was awarded a grade of B. It outpaced most nursing homes in this category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last area we assessed is nursing, in which this nursing home received a grade of B-. This was this nursing home's least impressive area. This is nevertheless not a terrible score. In computing our nursing scores, we assess both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this area. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning patients at least once a day.
