Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

To pair with its decent overall score, we awarded this nursing home an A- for its inspection grade. This score is far better than its overall score. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a decent score in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of B-. Long-term care grades focus on a nursing home's personal care rather than the highly skilled therapy and healthcare services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to just 89.20188 percent of its residents, which is slightly concerning. Nevertheless, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also gave this facility a middle of the pack grade in the area of short-term care, with a grade of C. Short-term care grades are typically used to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's worst area is nursing, which is the final area we looked at. We gave it an abysmal F for this area. Even with multiple respectable grades in other areas, this score is still disappointing so we would like to to make a note of it. We looked at the levels of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses worked with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This statistic is significantly below the national average. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had abysmal marks in several of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at more than double the national average in this metric. This is quite alarming when you consider that many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of receiving a poor nursing score.
