Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall score, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for short-term care. Our short-term care ratings are presumably most meaningful for residents in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on its inspection reports. We awarded it a grade of A- for that area, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The third category we graded was long-term care. This nursing home was awarded an above average long-term care score, with a grade of B+ in this area. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 97.31183 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a dangerous ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't take any chances. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final category we looked at is nursing. This nursing home was given a favorable nursing rating this year, with a C. Although this wasn't as elite as several of its other scores, this is still an acceptable grade in this category. We weighed the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses were with patients, in determining our grade in this category. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a relatively low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, our nursing scores also consider some quality-focused metrics. We look at the percent of patients who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. These data points are measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these issues.
