Facility Inspections

Grade: B

One of the reasons this turned out to be a decent facility is it earned a favorable inspection score. In this category, we gave this nursing home a B. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. Our nursing rating is based on several subcategories, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we analyzed is long-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B- in this category. In our long-term care assessment, we focus more on the volume of services offered by a nursing home, as well as a handful of quality metrics. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents. This facility keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final area we scored was short-term care. This facility received a grade of C for this category. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The tricky part is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
