Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it didn't perform terribly in our short-term care rating. In fact, we gave it a C for that category, which isn't bad. That said, this was not enough to save its profile. In determining our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is generally a reliable measure of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

Interestingly, this facility's terrible overall score can't really be attributed to its government inspection reports. We gave it a grade of C for our inspections category. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home had 4 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but fortunately none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to present an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, we need to note that this nursing home has been assessed government fines in recent years. We were relieved to find that these fines were on the lower end of the spectrum. However, this is not what we like to see.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Nursing grades are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This place provided only 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our next area, this facility didn't perform well in this category either. With a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.07692 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
