Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection ratings are based on many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility's next best category was long-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still performed relatively badly. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to patient care. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 93.80805 percent of its residents. This is a bit below what we were hoping for but still a decent figure. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this nursing home just a D for our short-term care score. This is not a score to write home about. With our short-term care score, we seek to forge a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. With a score of this caliber for this category, we weren't surprised to discover this place was well below average in many staffing areas we assess. The nursing home supplied far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.1 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last area we assessed is nursing. This facility received a rock bottom grade of F in this category. In calculating a nursing home's nursing rating, we weigh the number of hours nurses are caring for patients and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
