Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is as good as it gets in this area. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its dominant resume, this facility also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in the area. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.56332 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia can be a dangerous ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also received a dominant short-term care score. This actually turned out to be this nursing home's third best category grade. In that category, this facility received a score of A-. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The final area we assessed was nursing, where this facility was awarded a grade of B. Although this proved to be its worst category score, this is nevertheless a good score. In computing a nursing home's nursing score, we look at the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
