Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is just about as good as it gets in this critical category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care area. In fact, we gave it a score of A- for the category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 99.36306 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. In computing our nursing grades, we analyze both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final area we scored was short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a strong grade of B. In calculating our short-term care grades, we size up the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is often a solid assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
