Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This facility's overall grade was bolstered by the fact that it has received favorable health inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better scores in that category, with a grade of B+. This is a much better score than the nursing home's overall score. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, we gave this nursing home a B+ in our long-term care category. This happens to be one of our more favorable grades. Facilities that do well in this category typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.546486 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not take any chances. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Another reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing rating. This is as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing score weighs a variety of subcategories. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving a patient at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we assessed is short-term care, which was this facility's worst area. We awarded this facility a grade of D in that category. Naturally, this grade hurt the facility's overall grade a bit. In computing our short-term care scores, we scrutinize the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This category is typically a useful assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. In this facility's case, we found that it offers less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care grade.
