Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. The nursing grade analyzes quite a few subcategories, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning residents even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many high-end scores, this facility was awarded an excellent short-term care score. In fact, it received a score of A- in this area. In determining our short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This area is considered to be a solid assessment of the facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Tallying another strong category grade, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it earned an A-. Our inspection scores are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we scored was long-term care, in which this facility was given a B. Believe it or not, this turned out to be this facility's least impressive category. A nursing home is doing something right when their poorest grade still rates higher than most other facilities. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 93.61702 percent of its patients. This is slightly below what we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
