Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition to being a strong facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A-. Not many facilities performed better in that category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this facility an B+. Our nursing score is primarily based on a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning a resident even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also was given a favorable long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it an above average score of B in this category. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 18.18182 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next category we assessed was short-term care. This facility was awarded an impressive short-term care grade this year, with a B. This nursing home truly did not have any weak categories. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is generally a reliable measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We were not able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
