Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Although we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned a very impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our better scores in that area with a B+. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid places that had a long list of severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's next highest category was short-term care, but it nevertheless earned just a D in that category. This is still a well below average score. Our short-term care grades are believed to be more meaningful for residents in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. We analyzed the levels of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with residents, in calculating our grade in this category. This facility offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This place performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these datapoints to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we analyzed is long-term care, where this facility received a very poor grade in this category also. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously a major concern. Long-term care grades in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated 83.92857 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly less than what we were hoping for. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
